Mission

West Johnston High School will maintain high standards and will foster respect, integrity, and honesty through family, school, and community involvement. Our school faculty will seek to develop students as lifelong learners as well as prepare them to function as successful and responsible contributors to society. We plan to achieve the goals of our school by allowing students every opportunity to learn and insuring that teachers challenge students to the fullest possible extent.

Students at West Johnston are empowered to reach their true potential as members of a diverse community of learning.

 

Setting

West Johnston High School serves a semi-rural community in Johnston County, North Carolina.  The school's media center is staffed by two full-time media center coordinators, Mr. Will Sanders and Ms. Yvette Davis.  The facility serves 117 teachers and over 1,700  students in grades 9-12.  The library's collection data and operation policies are as follows:

  • Over 600 DVD and VHS Titles
  • Digital Cameras and Video Camcorders – Available for in-school use
  • Flatbed Scanner & CD Burners
  • Data Projector & Laptop Computer Carts
  • Laptop Carts with Wireless Access
  • Teacher Alcove – Computers with Microsoft Applications, Internet Access & Laser Printing
  • Photocopy Machine – Available for single copies
  • Laminating Machine – Items can be laminated for you
  • Conference Room – Sign up for use with students, faculty, & parents
  • Flexible-Access Lab (Room 201) – 29 Computers and Laser Printer

Circulation Policies:

  • A Student ID is required
  • Students may borrow up to four books at a time
  • Materials are checked out for three weeks
  • Overdue materials must be returned before additional books are borrowed
  • A replacement fee is charged for lost or damaged materials
  • No limit for number of books checked out to teachers
  • Overdue lists and bills are issued on a regular basis
